23 / 12 / 2009 Glass Bridge, Centre For The Unknown A biomedical research and diagnostic centre - called ‘Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown’ - is going to be built on behalf of the ‘Champaliamaud Foundation’ in Lisbon, Portugal. The building complex is planned by the Indian architect ‘Charles Correa Associates’. In cooperation with the architects, Schlaich Bergermann und Partner designed an all-glass sky bridge connecting the two multi-storey buildings. The load carrying steel structure of the single span bridge with a span length of about 20m is a cable trussed beam, primarily consisting of two compression elements along the outer edge of the bridge, a total of 12 vertical ribs (rings) at intervals of about 2 meters, the cross girders as part of the rings beneath the glass floor, as well as two suspension cables. The bridge will have a floor and glass railing and be covered with curved glass following the geometry of the bridge. Other news
