Glasscore is an European collaboration project within the Eureka Eurostars programme co-funded by CDTI.
The history of architectural lightweight structures has been characterised by the pursuit of higher degrees of transparency and longer free spans. Most advances in this field have been achieved by incorporating new materials and new construction techniques. The aim of the Glasscore project is to develop new composite materials made up of reinforced polymers and glass which can be used in lightweight structures such as roofs, domes, staircases and interior constructions. These innovative products will be able to replace the current structures made of steel and glass. They will provide significant advantages such as lighter structural components, more design flexibility, novel aesthetics, less environmental impact and improved fire performance.
