Building envelopes for a tower of 85 meters in heigh designed by the architectural firm Tusquets, Díaz y Asociados under the direction of Eduard Permanyer, appointed as the headquarters of the new Hilton Hotel in Barcelona.
The different enclosure systems were designed to resist the elevated wind loads produced by the location of of the building and its singular geometry. From the 3rd to the 21st floor, the following elements were installed: large aluminum and insulated solar-protected glass windows, Alucobond covering, and a special umbrella system made up of aluminum-edged lattice.
In addition, 14 curtain walls were constructed. Amongst them, we may be impressed by one that is 80 meters high and one that is located near the reception desk, which incorporates insulated glass solar-protected panels of 5,500x2,100m
Finally, we must mention the construction of the canopies at the entrance, executed in laminated structural glass with one of the glass panels deliberately broken in order to obtain an aesthetic effect. For the mechanical hold of that glass, we used the latest PUNTpart point-fixed support technology.
