Berkeley Hotel Entrance canopy

London (United Kingdom) - 2016

Construction of a bespoke canopy at the entrance of the Hotel Berkeley, located in London’s Knightsbridge neighborhood. This bespoke canopy is composed of a 28m x 10m glass ceiling and the roof that covers both the entrance zone and the Blue Bar and Sala Carmelo wings, covered with glass walls. All the ceilings and lateral wall coverings are composed of honeycomb sandwich glass panels especially developed for this project, while the walls are covered with insulating glass.

The sandwich honeycomb glass panels, composed of thin double skin glass, are structurally joined at an aluminum honeycomb nucleus, obtaining a stiff and lightweight group with a singular translucent appearance. The glass panels are supported by a simple isostatic structure, formed by beams and columns. However, it is necessary to point out that some of the main structural elements were designed in fibreglass reinforced with multimeters (CFRP), with a high quality exterior finish.

Bellapart won with this project The Outstanding Façade Innovation 2017 of International awards in the category of Facade Engineering Excellence.
